Board Member
Ricardo Manuel Arango is a senior partner of Arias, Fábrega & Fábrega in Panama since 1995. He is the Director of the firm´s M&A and Capital Markets & Banking Groups.
Mr. Arango has served as a Director and member of the Audit Committee of Banco General since 2012. He has also served as a Director of Banco Latinoamericano de Comercio Exterior (Bladex) since 2016; and served as Secretary of its Board from 2002 to 2016. Mr. Arango served as Chairman of the Panama Stock Exchange from 2007 to 2011 and as a Board member from 1999 to 2016. He also served as a Directors of Corporación La Prensa from 2002 to 2016 and as Vice-President and Chairman of its Editorial Committee from 2011 to 2016. From 2011 to 2015, Mr. Arango served as a member of the Managing Partners Committee of Lex Mundi. He is a member of the Latin American Business Council (CEAL).
From 1998 to 1999, Mr. Arango was a leading member of the Presidential Commission that drafted Panama’s current securities act.
Mr. Arango holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law and Political Science from the University of Panama, a Master of Laws degree from Harvard Law School, and a Master of Laws degree from Yale Law School. He was a Fulbright scholar from 1985 to 1987.
Before joining Arias, Fábrega & Fábrega, Mr. Arango worked in a major international law firm in New York from 1985 to 1987. Mr. Arango is admitted to practice law in Panama and New York.
During his thirty-year career as a lawyer, he has been commended by a number of international organizations and publications, including Latin Business Chronicle (Latin Trade), Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, The International Financial Law Review, Latin Lawyer, and the Latin American Corporate Counsel Association.
Mr. Arango was appointed as a member of the Panama Canal Authority Board of Directors on April 13, 2016, for a nine-year term.
