Presented at the publication&#8217;s Global Awards ceremony in London Tuesday night, the award is given on an annual basis to an individual who has dedicated his or her life&#8217;s work to furthering the development of the maritime industry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am very honored to receive this recognition from\u00a0<em>Lloyd&#8217;s List<\/em>, one of the industry&#8217;s most respected publications,&#8221; said Mr. Alem\u00e1n Zubieta. &#8220;Everyone at the ACP works hard to ensure that the Panama Canal provides safe, reliable and efficient service and I accept this award on behalf of the entire organization.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The ACP&#8217;s Center for Simulation, Research and Maritime Development (SIDMAR) also received the\u00a0<em>Lloyd&#8217;s List<\/em>\u00a0&#8220;Training Award&#8221; for its leadership in elevating the quality of maritime education and training. For more than 20 years, SIDMAR has been responsible for the training of all Canal operations personnel including ACP pilots, tugboat captains, seamen and launch operators. SIDMAR also provides ongoing supplemental training to the Canal&#8217;s staff and coordinates education programs for private and public naval schools in Panama.<\/p>\n<p><em>Lloyd&#8217;s List<\/em>\u00a0is one of the world&#8217;s oldest newspapers covering marine insurance, offshore energy, logistics, global trade and law. Held annually, the Global Awards recognizes the elite of the shipping community for business performance, commitment and initiative.
