This is an increase of B\/.404.3 million (14.5%) compared to the approved FY2025 budget. Additionally, an estimated B\/.291.1 million will be paid to other state entities in forms of income tax, social security, education insurance, and employer-employee contributions.<\/p>\n<p>In a global context marked by climate uncertainty, technological advancements, geopolitical tensions, and sustainability challenges, FY2026 marks the beginning of a new period focused on strengthening the Canal\u2019s business model and protecting the long-term value of the waterway.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-52008\" src=\"https:\/\/pancanal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250819_235812040_iOS-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pancanal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250819_235812040_iOS-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/pancanal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250819_235812040_iOS-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/pancanal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250819_235812040_iOS-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/pancanal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250819_235812040_iOS-1536x1025.jpeg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Following its approval by the Cabinet Council, the budget will be submitted to the National Assembly, in accordance with the process established by the National Constitution and the Organic Law of the Panama Canal Authority.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R\u00edo Indio Lake Declared a Project of Public Interest<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During its presentation to the Cabinet Council, the National Government responded to concerns expressed by the R\u00edo Indio watershed communities. The inquiries focused on possible land speculation and irregular land management tied to the new lake\u2019s construction. In response, the government announced two protective measures: A legal definition of the project\u2019s area of influence, as well as an official declaration which classifies the work as a project of public interest.<\/p>\n<p>Defining the area of influence legally establishes which lands and communities are connected to the project and outlines mechanisms to safeguard the rights of local residents and landowners. Requiring that all state institutions must actively collaborate for the orderly development of the project and addressing the needs of the community will be expedited to ensure more efficient and coordinated support.<\/p>\n<p>The R\u00edo Indio Lake project is being developed to secure the water supply for more than 50% of the population and to support the region\u2019s productive activities.
