Panama City, Panama, May 8, 2013 – The Panama Canal has received three Communicator Awards for the production of two corporate videos: one showing the Expansion Program progress and the other one highlighting the Canal’s commitment to employee training.

“We are honored to receive these awards and proud of the exceptional work of our video production team and our Center for Simulation, Research and Maritime Development (SIDMAR),” Panama Canal Administrator Jorge L. Quijano. “This award reinforces the Canal’s commitment to maintain the highest quality standards in our international and national communications, as well as in the training instruments for our workers.”

The Communicator Awards is the leading international awards program recognizing big ideas in marketing and communications. Founded nearly two decades ago, The Communicator Awards receives over 6,000 entries from companies and agencies of all sizes, making it one of the largest awards of its kind worldwide. This was the 19th edition of the Communicator Awards.

The Panama Canal received the following three awards:

  • An Award of Excellence under Video – Corporate Image category for the “Panama Canal Expansion” video, which details the program’s progress.
  • Two Awards of Distinction under the Video – Training (corporate) and Editing categories for “Panama Canal: The New Challenge” video, for Panama Canal pilots and tugboat captains on the transit of vessels without the aid of locomotives.

This is the second year that the Panama Canal receives a Communicator Award. In 2012, the Panama Canal received an Award of Distinction for its training videos “Advance Maneuvers II” and “The Handling of Ultra Large Container Ships.”
