The Panama Canal concluded the document submission period on Thursday for companies interested in participating in the prequalification process for the development of the Corozal and Telfers container transshipment terminals, marking another milestone in the process to select the future concessionaires.

The submitted documentation will be evaluated according to the technical, financial, and legal criteria established in the Prequalification Documents and their corresponding amendments. Once this evaluation is complete, the Panama Canal will publish the list of prequalified companies, which will move on to the next phase of the process focused on engagement and dialogue with the prequalified participants.

The initiative involves the development of two container transshipment terminals, one on the Atlantic side and one on the Pacific side, with an estimated investment of B/.2.6 billion and an expected construction period of approximately three years. The project is expected to increase Panama’s container transshipment capacity by an additional 5 to 6 million TEUs per year, strengthening the competitiveness of the country’s port system around the Panama Canal.

The prequalification process began on January 30, 2026, with the publication of the Prequalification Documents. It then progressed through a consultation period, the issuance of three amendments, and concludes today with the submission of qualification documents, in accordance with the procedures established under the Panama Canal Authority’s Concessions Regulation. These stages are designed to ensure the transparency and competitiveness of the process while promoting informed participation by interested companies.
